Racing projects evolve over time, and this is a prime example of a successful evolution. This first picture is an initial configuration to replace an old powerplant in a successful SCCA racer. Our responsibilities were to evaluate and suggest modifications to the cylinder heads and intake system, design and fabricate the exhaust system, and fit and tune the engine management system in this dyno development study. Several combinations were constructed by the engine builder for evaluation over the last six years culminating with the second photo of the 2009 racing engine configuration. The engine has been powerful and reliable enough to grab the National Championship in the SCCA GT-2 class in 2003, 2008, and 2010.
